Project1

In this team work, I am responsible for recording,The shooting manager gave me valuable experience and gave me a general understanding of the operation mode of shooting work.

In the post-production color grading and editing, I tried to restore the "green-yellow" color in the movie. I chose to combine the Koda color grading in PR and some manual color grading to achieve a close effect.

Project2

I decided to make a retro style cooking video inspired by old videotapes. These tapes were shot in a very raw way with low definition and a lot of film grain. This style evokes the past and the golden age.
I think it’s better to use stop-motion animation style, even though this is project 2 rather than the final project. Stop-motion animation makes the video closer to the slides played in old cinemas. At the same time, it can also accumulate experience in shooting stop-motion animation and prepare for the final project.

I plan to show the process of cooking a steak, which is my best dish. The whole video is divided into four parts: showing the ingredients, marinating, frying, and tasting.

After finishing the shooting, I imported the pictures into PR for editing.I set the duration of each still image to one second.

After completing the basic editing of the animation, I started to work on the effect editing. I wanted to create the style of 8mm film. In order to achieve this effect, I first graded the video itself. I chose Koda2395 for color grading. The goal is to achieve a warm vintage style

For the film grain effect, I used an 8mm film background and overlaid it on the animation. Then I used the blending mode: Blend to achieve the desired effect.

Finally add subtitles and some necessary adjustments

FINAL Project

For my final stop motion project I will be creating a final version of a retro slideshow stop motion cooking video. With the skills accumulated from the last project, I can complete a relatively complete shoot independently. At the same time, I will use more complex movements in the new shoot.

For this shoot, I bought a new stand. This stand will provide a more stable picture when shooting the food preparation and grinding part. But I couldn’t use it for the frying part because of the height of the venue and the gas stove, so I still had to shoot handheld.
(storyboard is in PPT)
The storyboard is still the same as the previous work, but I will use more complex movements for the movement. At the same time, with the help of the bracket, I can shoot vertically.

The food preparation part (the table part) went smoothly. Everything went as I expected, because this was a one-person project, but it required a long animation. So I reduced the number of frames per second and also followed the style of the slideshow.

But when I started cooking the steak, things became difficult because I needed to operate the frying pan and shoot at the same time. The location and height of the kitchen prevented me from using a tripod, so I had to hold my phone up to shoot. In the end, I still managed to shoot this part, but because there was no tripod, the picture was more shaky than the table part.

Since this is not a tiktok video, I don't think it's necessary to add subtitles. The audience needs a pure experience. In this post-processing I improved the film layer so that it is not so overexposed, and I applied a new color correction, it looks great
