As a lover of Salvador Dalí, this work undoubtedly caught my eye for the first time, and this work creates a unique visual experience through collage, which perfectly blends Salvador Dalí's surrealist art style, which is undoubtedly a creative way to pay homage.This work uses Salvador Dali's most famous portrait, cropping and adding extra elements to reveal his inner world, adding a layer of thinking to the portrait itself.

The second work is the famous movie, the poster of The Matrix, as an excellent movie, its poster design is also very creative.The design of this poster combines regular codes with the shape of a cat, a combination that perfectly matches the plot of the movie. The cat in the movie appears at the moment when the matrix goes wrong, here it represents the breaking of the rules, and the shape of the cat in the poster breaks the order of the code, fitting this theme.

The third work gives me a special visual impact, this work is undoubtedly surreal, every element seems to repeat the theme of "seeing", or "surveillance", I don't know what the author had in mind when he created it, but the right reorganization makes the overall effect hook the viewer like a hook

Note:Since Malaysian books and magazines were too expensive, I chose to use electronic typesetting and printing, and inspired by the second creation of the Salvador Dalí portrait I found in week1, I created three different compositional drafts, each using a different compositional technique.

1.Use Quick Selection tool to subtract background.

  • SHORTCUT KEYS: Zoom in/out, increase/decrease brush size, subtract from selection/ add to selection.

Drag & Drop SHAZAM to HEARST MANSION, RESIZE SHAZAM and reposition.

  • SHORTCUT KEYS: Free Transform mode, Maintain Aspect Ratio
    (HOLD the SHIFT button on your keyboard to rescale the layer)


Adjust colour correction: MATCH COLOUR (Image → Adjustments)


Match image quality: ADD NOISE filter to SHAZAM.


Create SHADOW for SHAZAM

  1. Create NEW LAYER (and rename as Shadow)

  2. Use BRUSH TOOL

  3. Draw a black shadow on the background of SHAZAM’s layer


Apply  GAUSSIAN BLUR effect on the shadow layer


educe the shadow’s layer to 66% opacity


Create NEW LAYER to make SHAZAM’s reflection. 

  • SHORTCUT KEYS: POLYGONAL LASSO Tool, 

  • Duplicate the SHAZAM’s layer

  • Rename the layer as reflection


Adjust the colour correct for reflection layer: 

  • HUE/SATURATION (Image → Adjustments)


Apply RIPPLE filter to SHAZAM’s reflection layer.

Note: This image is peculiar, the hair color is too similar to the background, the Quick Selection tool does not work properly, so it needs to be colored by hand,I deliberately filled the two eyes with different colors. I think this will make the picture more vivid.

Note:In week seven, we learned about double exposure, which essentially builds on the technique of the previous week's lesson, also using the Quick Selection tool plus masking, which is a practical technique that can be used to create many visually striking electronic arts




Open portrait image in Photoshop:

  1. Click W for Object Selection/Quick Selection/Magic Wand tools ser

  2. Click “Select Subject” at Option bar

  3. Click “Select and Mask” at Option bar

Under “Select & Mask”:

  1. View Mode: Select Overlay, adjust Opacity

Under “Select & Mask”:

  1. Select “Refine Edge Brush Tool”.

  2. Adjust brush size and Hardness.

Under “Select & Mask”:

  1. Select “Refine Edge Brush Tool”.

  2. Adjust brush size and Hardness.

  3. Zoom in.

  4. Brush the hair in one stroke.

  5. Brush eyelashes.

Under “Select & Mask”:

  1. Select “Brush Tool” or “Lasso Tool”

  2. Clean the background.

  3. Check edges.

  4. Output: Select Layer with Layer Mask.

  5. Click OK to leave “Select & Mask” mode. 

Under “Select & Mask”:

  1. Create “New Layer”.

  2. Add “Solid colour”.

  3. Rename it to “bg”.

  4. Drop it under portrait layer

Increase contrast for portrait layer:

  1. Add Curve adjustment layer.

  2. Make S curve.

  3. Right click on curve layer select clipping mask.


  1. Add forest image and reposition it.

  2. Select clipping mask.

  3. Double click bg’ solid colour, select the “grey sky colour” with eye dropper.

  4. Add mask layer.

  1. Select brush tool, foreground colour black. Adjust brush size, hardness, and flow.

  2. Unmask her face.

  1. Duplicate forrest layer, flip vertical and reposition, select clipping mask.

  2. Adjust the mask, as well as the portrait’s mask


  1. dd the two birds’ images.

  2. Select Darken/Multiply blending mode to remove white background.

Note:I chose non-human objects as material because I thought it would give me more flexibility in how I used what I learned,The basic steps are much the same, but in order to make the antlers and branches blend better, I erased the mask from some of the antler edges to make the overall visual look more organic.

Dongpu Reservoir is my favorite photo spot, it is located in my hometown of Hefei, Anhui Province, I often take photos of the same location, my idea is to combine the use of double exposure of Dongpu Reservoir in different weather and time of day, so as to show the changing face of Dongpu Reservoir

Summary of idea:

My idea is to combine specific cylindrical objects and choose objects with my personal characteristics, my choice is my asthma spray and battery. Because my asthma spray can get me back to normal, it's like recharging my batteries.At the same time, the cylindrical jar of asthma spray reminds me of the shape of a battery.

I removed the background of the photo and then adjusted the Brightness and contrast.

Then use the Quick Selection tool to remove the can portion of the sprayer and create a new mask，Then combine the battery and sprayer, adjust the contrast again, and reduce the bloom to make the battery and spray more organically combined.

INTRO

My learning process was essentially my pursuit of the ability to express what was on my mind. I longed to be an artist or a designer from an early age.

I may not yet have the perfect ability to turn my ideas into visible things, but I am always pursuing this ability, and this desire guides me,But at the same time I'm constantly looking, absorbing other ideas, and turning them into a part of me, like a database. I hope that in the future when I have enough professional skills, this database will have great potential.

SUMMARY

My portrait should be in a low-poly style, because this style is very suitable for stylizing any portrait. I will use a combination of typography and DPI for the background. The background will be the place where I tell my inner thoughts, and it is the embodiment of the stream of consciousness. At the same time, it must also be combined with animation technology

I used Illustrator to draw. I first used the straight line tool to draw fractals, and then used real-time coloring to color the triangle color blocks. The colors were taken from photos. After that, I expanded the real-time coloring, so I got more than a thousand  small triangles.I imported the ai format file into psd, and then started making the background including typography fonts.

I created many demos to verify whether my idea was feasible. Specifically, I first applied Gaussian blur to the photo, and then created a layer containing text. Use the Distort Displacement filter to deform the text layer to ensure that the shape of the text fits the photo. image, and finally convert it into a mask superimposed on the picture.

After verifying the idea, I added the font west wind, which I designed in the typography course, to the background. After adding it, I explored many different font layouts and background color styles. to achieve the best visual effect.

When adding the main title text I thought about balancing the visual space between the title and illustration sections, and since my design doesn’t have a lot of empty space, I chose a method that ensured the visibility of the title font and illustration sections. I used an invert mask to keep the main title highly visible while maintaining the visibility of the illustration.

Feedback modify version

Mr. Zamri thought that the text I chose for my title was too abstract and stream-of-consciousness, so I expanded the existing font with more new letters, and finally chose "design unleashed" as my new title. The new title is clearer and more understandable. Zamri also pointed out that my poster should be more layered, and the original title may have been too extravagant

Since the animation is entirely produced on AE, although the same materials as the static posters are used, the resolution and implementation of some effects are completely different from the static posters.

Since the portrait part consists of more than a thousand triangles, it is unrealistic to import them all into AE.So I chose to merge the triangles of the facial features together to form several large layers, and then separate the broken animation part into a psd file to facilitate subsequent animation production.

I categorized the upper right and lower left pieces and named each triangle in detail.The animation of triangles flying out is very simple, but there are a lot of them. At the same time, I also need to make easing effects and elastic effects for the movement of each triangle. This work consumes me all day.

When I finished the work I realized that I had made a mistake, the proportions of the static poster and the animated poster were completely different, and forcing the stretch would cause the image to be out of alignment. So I started adjusting the animation to fit the 1080P ratio.

I made a longer version of the background to fit the 16:9 ratio, and also modified the ratio of the main title to make the visual effect more even.
